Description

Armada is a sculptural seating collection designed for open work and lounge spaces. The armchairs are defined by blown, billowing forms that rise from the seat like wind-filled sails, creating a sense of lightness and movement while offering varying degrees of privacy and seclusion. The design explores the relationship between surface and volume through a combination of thin, upholstered outer surfaces and generous, voluminous cushions on the inside – providing comfort for working on the move.

The design’s distinctive form language comes from this interplay of delicacy and fullness: a fine, almost weightless outline that frames a soft interior. Armada supports different modes of sitting and working, from brief pauses to longer periods of focus.

The collection comprises a high-back armchair, a low-back armchair and a fully upholstered dining chair on a pedestal base, each piece contributing to a flexible landscape of seating for contemporary shared environments.

WORKING WITH MOROSO

Every idea needs to find a home with a maker capable of realising it. At Moroso, the skill of the company’s craftspeople makes it possible to achieve the complexity of form-making and pattern-cutting that Doshi Levien’s work often demands.

CAPTURING THE IDEA

What lies behind this drawing is a close dialogue between Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien, as they explore the idea of wind-filled sails becoming a place of shelter.

ARMADA SIDE TABLES

Almost incidental in nature, the Armada side table’s legs share the same propped relationship to the frame as seen in the corresponding Armada chairs. The tabletop is a wood composite designed by Ettore Sottsass for Alpi.

COMFORT IN ANY SPACE

Armada has a strong sculptural presence that quietly anchors its surroundings. In open environments like this, its enveloping form offers a sense of refuge within the wider space.
