Rocking Horse
Description
While observing how young children play, the studio noticed that the objects that capture their attention are often not toys at all, but everyday things already in the home. Children naturally invent their own imaginative uses for whatever is around them. This insight led Doshi Levien to design the Rocker for Richard Lampert, an object that feels like something discovered and repurposed – an improvised ride. It features a moulded seat paired with solid oak rockers.

THE ROCKING HORSE ABSTRACTED
A non-figurative interpretation of the classic children’s toy, composed as an improvised arrangement of forms rather than a literal horse. Designed without compromising the joy and function of rocking, Rocker has an outer rim to hold onto for wilder moments.

RE-IMAGINING A CHILDREN’S TOY
An object that feels like something discovered and repurposed: made with stacked layers of corrugated card and plywood, Rocker evolved out of a working prototype that Doshi Levien created for proof of concept.

ROCKER PRODUCTION VERSION
A rotational-moulded shell provides a grip on the outer edges. Runners are made in solid oak.
